About me
Despite growing up in Birmingham, the location geographically furthest from the sea in the entire United Kingdom, I have always felt most at home on the coast. I am now lucky enough to call the Dorset coast ‘home’ and south-west beaches will always hold a place in my heart, from Cornish childhood holidays, to university days in Devon.
Whether it be surfing, swimming, or beachcombing, it is in the sea or by the sea, when I feel most alive. When I am away from it, I am drawn to capturing it, trying to create a window to escape back to that memory, those colours, that day.
I feel that paintings should transport you elsewhere, and where better than the Purbecks?
The diversity of the soft sand dunes at Studland to the rugged cliffs at Lulworth, provide an endless palate to work from. I can often be found walking the coast paths for inspiration, alongside my golden retriever, Bear.
I largely paint with acrylics on either canvas, balsa wood, or driftwood that I have found thrown up by the surf. I love the way that on wood the texture dictates how and where the light hits the sea and tells its own story. Whilst I mainly paint from my studio, I love getting out and about at local fairs, exhibitions, and art festivals and meeting people who love art and the sea as much as I do!
When someone recognises a view from a painting as being ‘their view’- their favourite walk, their proposal spot; that connection is just magical. Through painting, I love being able to transport someone back to that memory, to capture for them forever a moment that they thought was lost.
